These are the items we have planned for this week's delivery.
This box may include larger portion sizes for some items.
Most berries and fruits are perennial, meaning that the plant overwinters and regrows every spring. Strawberries, unlike blueberries and raspberries, are often planted in the spring as an annual crop that produces sweet, flavorful berries from late June to mid-fall. If the strawberry plant receives plenty of water, about an inch a week and the temperature stays between 40º and 90ºF then you can expect a consistent crop throughout the season.
This past winter, we planned with a local farmer to have local strawberries for our produce box. Despite our farmer’s best efforts, the recent heat wave and drought were just too much for the fledgling strawberry plants to handle and his entire crop was wiped out. That is why we are bringing you fresh, organic strawberries from out-of-state.
Our focus continues to be on bringing produce that is grown by farmers in Minnesota and the surrounding region. You’ll probably continue to see changes like this over the summer/fall as our famers work with Mother Nature and we’ll keep you updated as this affects what we may offer in our produce boxes.
