Roasting Garlic 101
With local heirloom hardneck garlic back in season we wanted to share a great way to put it to use!
The sweet, caramelized taste of roasted garlic is a true culinary delight and a drastic change from the stronger, somewhat "spicier" flavor of raw garlic.
Roasted garlic is perfect for making garlic bread, adding into pasta or pizza recipes, making dips or adding to your favorite soup & stew recipes!
For those who like to keep roasted garlic on hand regularly, we recommend roasting up a big batch and freezing any leftovers for future use!
Instructions: How to Roast Garlic
- Whole garlic heads (as many as you'd like to roast)
- Olive Oil
- Salt (optional)
- Aluminum Foil
Intructions:
- Preheat oven to 400
- Slice the top of the garlic head(s) off enough to expose the inside of the individual cloves (don’t cut the root end, but the top where the stem grows upwards).
- Drizzle each head of garlic with olive oil & salt (if preferred)
- Wrap each head of garlic in aluminum foil tightly to create a sealed packet
- Place wrapped garlic on a baking sheet and roast for 30-40 mins or until the garlic is soft and golden brown
- Let cool before squeezing out the softened, roasted cloves.
Ways to Use Roasted Garlic
Use As a Spread:
Combine roasted garlic with softened butter, cream cheese or greek yogurt. Serve on toast, crackers or as a dip for veggies! You can even spread roasted garlic directly on toasted bread for an easy garlic bread recipe!
Add to Soups & Stews:
Roasted garlic adds great depth & richness to your favorite soup & stew recipes
Pasta:
Toss roasted garlic with pasta, olive oil & parmesan cheese for a simple, cozy meal
Vegetables:
Add roasted garlic to your favorite cooked veggies for an extra layer of flavor (think potatoes, roasted carrots, or Brussels sprouts)
Marinades, Rubs & Dressings:
Use roasted garlic instead of raw for a milder, sweeter flavor
Pizza:
Use roasted garlic cloves as a pizza topping or spread roasted garlic onto the crust before adding your favorite toppings!
