Any area where water collects can be transformed into a mini sanctuary.
This collection of plants will absorb water and filter runoff, all while providing habitat for pollinators and stunning blooms to enjoy! Naturally wet, rich soils often support tall, robust plant growth. The wildflowers in this collection will range from 3 to 6 feet in height and can tolerate standing water for short periods of time.
The Rain Garden Collection includes 6 species, 1 seed packet of each:
- Rose Milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) - 100 seeds
- Joe Pye Weed (Eutrochium maculatum) - 400 seeds
- Sneezeweed (Helenium autumnale) - 500 seeds
- Cardinal Flower (Lobelia cardinalis) - 750 seeds
- Obedient Plant (Physostegia virginiana) - 200 seeds
- New England Aster (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae) - 500 seeds
For a naturalized look, combine all seed packets to cover approximately 15-20 sq ft. Surface sow outdoors on a weed-free site in late fall. Mow the first growing season. Expect first blooms in year 2 or 3. Alternatively, sow seed in rows in a garden setting in late fall. In spring, thin seedlings and weed as expected with vegetable gardening. Transplant to permanent locations that fall or the following spring.
