How TC Farm Supports Earth Day Everyday
TC Farm is proud to reuse as much material as possible in our warehouse operations. Not only does it save us money, but it also reduces how much waste is generated on a daily basis. This aligns with our values of responsible land stewardship and reducing our carbon footprint as we work to create a stronger regional food system that supports local farmers and feeds our community. Here are some great ways we reduce waste in our day-to-day operations:


  • Only paper bags or compostable bags used for our CSA shares/mushrooms

  • Clean thermal bags and ice packs are reused for deliveries

  • Boxes from product deliveries reused to package grocery orders

  • Large cardboard boxes repeatedly used for organizing delivery routes on pallets

  • Extra pallets at our warehouse are shipped out with a supplier for reuse at their warehouses

  • Fewer inbound deliveries since our freezer space can store greater amounts of inventory than a grocery store

  • Less than perfect quality fruit and vegetables are turned over to the kitchen for production or donated to food shelf
  • Recycling and compost sorting bins on site 
  • Clean egg cartons are reused for fresh eggs
  • Reduced plastic waste compared to a butcher counter at a grocer since our meats are packaged immediately for retail sale once processed; a grocer has to unpack, process, then repack meat- doubling plastic usage!
  • Reduced carbon emissions by helping farmers get their products to your door instead of driving to multiple markets to sell 

Best of all, over the past year, TC Farm’s improved delivery operations have resulted in more delivery stops per route and reduced delivery vans (and carbon emissions) on the road! Our operations team is always finding ways to be more efficient and Earth-friendly!

  • According to a recent Yale University/EPA study, the U.S. recycles less than 22% of its discarded materials.

  • The U.S. recycling levels have not improved in 20 years despite the billions of dollars spent on recycling competitions, symposiums, awareness campaigns and new sorting technologies.

  • Despite only representing 5% of the world population, the U.S. generates more waste than any other country in the world. (World Watch Institute)
