Meet Farmer Becca of Seeds Farm

If you've been with TC Farm for any amount of time, you'll recognize this photo of our TC Farmer being used in promotional material for our local produce CSAs. Or you may have even visited her farm on a summer farm tour event in previous years.

Meet Farmer Becca of Seeds Farm located in Northfield, MN! She is a first-generation farmer and one of TC Farm's anchor farmers who grows much of the produce that is included in our shares. Having organically farmed for 15 seasons as of this year, Becca grows 25 varieties of vegetables on her 18 acres.

Becca fell in love with farming while attending St. Olaf College in her hometown of Northfield. Her passion for farming stems from an understanding that “one of the biggest ways we interact with our environment is through agriculture: we all have to eat and that food has to be grown... how it is grown impacts the soils in our communities. The choices we make as to the food we buy and how it’s grown directly impact our agricultural landscape and therefore, the environment. We vote with our dollars!”

"The choices we make as to the food we buy & how it's grown directly impact our agricultural landscape & therefore, the environment."

The Ups and Downs of Farming According to Farmer Becca

Becca’s favorite things about farming is getting to be creative with problem solving, working outside, getting dirty, feeding the community and watching the seasons change. She also says that “working with the crew to accomplish a goal” is immensely satisfying.

But along with these perks come some uncontrollable downsides too, including: tornadoes, back-to-back floods, droughts and pests and diseases. These factors make your support paramount in our mission to strengthen the local food system.

Having a community of customers “who understand the true cost of buying local and organic vegetables in a state that has snow half the year” is the key to building up a thriving local food system when so many things are outside of farmers’ control.

Fun Becca Fact:

She used to spend her winters between farming seasons working as a dogsled guide for guests going on winter camping trips through the BWCA!
