Preparation Tips:

Let your child take the lead in the kitchen with their own kid-safe tools and cutting board. With easy-to-slice ingredients and fun skewers, they’ll be busy crafting and munching their creations—giving you a glorious chunk of free time!

Order of preparation:

Start by helping to wash and dry the fruit and veggies of their choice.

Let them cut up the produce and sort them into small individual bowls to make it easier for them to see all their options when building their custom skewers.

Next, prepare the sandwiches using their preferred ingredients and then cut them into little squares, triangles - maybe even circles with a small cookie cutter- just let them be as creative as they want!

Once everything is prepped, the fun begins! Taking one skewer at a time, they can design their lunch in any order they prefer to eat them!

Turn It Into A Fun Afternoon Activity:

1. Make It a Food Art Challenge
  • Encourage kids to create patterns or characters with their skewers.
  • Have a mini “food art show” where they present their creations.
  • Offer fun names for their skewers like “Rainbow Rocket” or “Monster Munch Stick.”
 2. Turn It Into a Game
  • Create a bingo card with different ingredients—kids get a prize when they use a full row!
  • Or play “mystery ingredient” where they close their eyes and pick one surprise item to add.
3. Add a Storytelling Twist
  • Ask them to build a skewer that tells a story—like a picnic in space or a jungle adventure.
  • They can explain their story while showing off their edible masterpiece.
 4. Capture the Fun
  • Let them take photos of their creations and vote on the most creative, colorful, or tallest skewer.
  • You could even make a little scrapbook or digital collage of their lunch art!
