Toss it with pasta, use it as a dipping sauce, spoon it over steamed vegetables, or add it to your favorite recipe. Plenty of our customers treat it as their starting point, adding meatballs, hot sausage or peppers, or a few spices of their own. Several call it their favorite store-bought pasta sauce.

The Terlato family also makes wine, and for years we made sauces like this one to share with friends and family at the table. John Terlato wanted a sauce as fresh as homemade, without artificial flavors or over-complicated ingredients. After sampling the top brands, he perfected a recipe using small-batch techniques. At Terlato Kitchen we believe food should be both simple and extraordinary, and shared.

Each 24 oz (680 g) jar is made in Italy. It is shelf stable until opened; refrigerate after opening.

Common Questions

What's a good store-bought pasta sauce with no added sugar?
Terlato Kitchen Small Batch Pomodoro Sauce has no added sugar, and its full ingredient list is San Marzano tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, garlic and spices. Many jarred pasta sauces add sugar to round off the acidity of the tomatoes, so the ingredient list is the quickest way to tell them apart. San Marzano is a variety prized for its low acidity and dense flesh. Shoppers tell us they value that combination of San Marzano tomatoes, natural spices and no added sugar, and several call it their favorite store-bought pasta sauce.

What's the difference between pomodoro sauce and marinara?
Pomodoro, which is Italian for tomato, is a simple sauce built around tomatoes, olive oil and garlic, and that is what our Terlato Kitchen Small Batch Pomodoro Sauce is. In American stores the names pomodoro, marinara and spaghetti sauce overlap a lot, and marinara versions often lean more on herbs like oregano and basil. Ours was the first product Terlato Kitchen ever made, from an age-old family recipe with hand-selected ingredients. We make it in small batches from a handful of ingredients, so you can simmer it and serve it as is or use it as the base for your own recipe.

Is there a jarred tomato sauce that's keto, paleo and gluten-free?
Yes, our Terlato Kitchen Small Batch Pomodoro Sauce is labeled both keto friendly and paleo friendly, and we make it gluten-free. For those eating styles, the things to watch in a jarred sauce are added sugars, starches and thickeners, and ours is made from five simple ingredients with nothing added beyond them. It is also all natural and non-GMO.

Are the tomatoes in Terlato Pomodoro Sauce really San Marzano from Italy?
Yes, our Pomodoro Sauce is made with Italian San Marzano tomatoes and Italian cold pressed extra virgin olive oil, and the sauce's country of origin is Italy. San Marzano is a plum tomato variety that cooks favor for sauce because it has fewer seeds and a sweeter, less acidic flavor than many round tomatoes. Only the most amazingly flavorful San Marzano tomatoes and the highest quality extra virgin olive oil from Italy are found in our sauce.

Does Terlato Pomodoro Sauce need extra seasoning?
Our Pomodoro Sauce is seasoned and ready to heat, so you can simply simmer and serve. Because it is a simple sauce, many shoppers treat it as a starting point: they add meatballs, hot sausage or peppers, or stir in extra spices of their own. One shopper adds green peppers to soften the acidity.

Can I use Terlato Pomodoro Sauce as a pizza sauce or dipping sauce?
Yes, we suggest our Pomodoro Sauce as a dipping sauce, and it also works tossed with pasta, spooned over steamed vegetables or added to your favorite recipe. For pizza, a plain tomato sauce of San Marzano tomatoes, olive oil and garlic is a classic base; simmering it down for a few minutes thickens it so it spreads without making the crust soggy.

How big is a jar of Terlato Pomodoro Sauce and how do I store it?
Each jar of our Pomodoro Sauce holds 24 oz (680 g), which is about 1.5 pounds packed. It is shelf stable, so it can sit in the pantry until you open it, and it should be refrigerated after opening.
