TC Farm Staff Spotlight: Meet Julia!

We've got some amazing staff at TC Farm!

Julia grew up working at Farmer's Markets and has a unique understanding of the challenges that local farmers face in farming sustainably and finding a fair price for the food they grow.

We're dreaming of warmer days ahead and wanter to share her garden with our members!

Q & A with Julia:

Tell us a little bit about your role at TC Farm- What do you do?

I work primarily in the dry goods department, spearheading the process of receiving new products, picking and packing, and inventory management. I also maintain the dairy and refrigerated products and help produce share-building, picking and packing, as needed.

What do you enjoy the most about working for TC Farm?

I love that the people here love to eat- those are my kind of people. =)  But besides that, I also believe in supporting local farmers because I grew up selling produce at the Minneapolis Farmer’s Market every summer for 8 years and for the amount of labor we put into growing and harvesting our vegetables as a family, we made very little profit.

To this day, I never question the prices of locally grown produce because I know how much care went into growing it.

Why is TC Farm’s mission of building a more sustainable food system important to you?

Sustainability, to me, means being conscious of your effect on this planet and living with care and intentionality. I want to promote eating seasonally as much as possible by supporting local farmers and by doing so, you can grow a stronger, healthier, and more bonded community.

What are some of your favorite TC Farm foods & how do you like to prepare them?

I’m currently loving the coconut milk vanilla yogurt combined with the Cadia honey oat granola and fresh berries. That’s my go-to snack (and sometimes lunch) these days! Other than that, I’m a sucker for roasted root veggies and just tried Golden Beets for the first time this week (super good!)

What do you like doing most in your free time?

Vintage shopping/antiquing in the winter and in spring/summer, if I’m not at TC Farm’s warehouse, you can find me in the garden!

Julia also picked all of the seed packets that we're offering to our members this year. Having someone with a green thumb packing them couldn't hurt, right?!  ; )

Yogurt & granola is a classic combo, plus we've got seed packets bundles or individual seed varieties.

Julia recommends the Teddy Bear Sunflowers- These bloom sooner than the tall sunflowers and look awesome in containers (plus, her kids love being at eye- level with the fuzzy blooms!)

She also loves the Rattlesnake Pole Beans- they're sweet and crunchy fresh off the vine and are beautiful with purple streaks.
